THE REVERT 6
It's been ages that Brian hasn't been to a bar. Last time he went was right before the deployment, about 6 months ago. He isn't a heavy drinker but he enjoys the company. Especially, girls! Girls, they are a totally different chapter. The chapter that Brian never understood beyond the bed. May be that's why, he never got married. 35 years is not awfully old but to his father, he is. According to his father, men should settle themselves by the age of 28. Anything beyond that means those men are destined to be single for the rest of their lives. Brian doesn't care! Especially, the profession he is in, loose lips might be deadly. Women are very good at that.
A phone call got him out of his thoughts. It's Gilman.
-"What's up?"
-" What's your plan for today?" Asked Gilman.
-"Nothing much."
-" Come to the bar. Steve and Parker would be there as well."
-"Alright, see you soon."
Brian got up from the bed,
' I really need a long shower.' he thought!
------------
-"When is the program?" Parker asked Gilman.
-"What program?" Gilman asked taking a sip of the beer.
-"Your engagement. The one you are bragging about past 8 months." surprised Parker replied.
-"He got hooked with another girl." Brian replied.
-" Wait, what!!" Steve exclaimed.
-" It's clear as a daylight. Gilman doesn't even remember that he is getting engaged in two weeks. It could only mean, he is with another one." Brian said with a grin.
-" It's for fun. Nothing serious. Trying to enjoy the last few days of my freedom. By the way, O am still getting engaged to Saba."
-"Sleek" Parker grinned.
"Brian!" A woman's voice interrupted their conversation.
-"Hey Christina! It's been a while. What's up?"
Brian tried to hide the annoyance in his voice with a smile. He absolutely hates it when one of his ex tries to talk to him in a public place. It's not like, he gives them time afterwards. He doesn't really want to face them. Christina is one of those women who doesn't understand "Leave me alone." She thinks she can turn any man's heart with her charm.
' No wonder, people says blonds and brains don't go together.' Brian muttered.
-"Where have you been? I called your place few times. No one picked up." Christina said with a broad smile.
-"I was deployed." Brian answered still looking away from Christina.
-" Can we talk somewhere private?"
-"No need! It's not like we are in a relationship."
-After a brief pause, Christina said, " I think we should give our relationship another chance."
Gilman, Parker and Steve started getting away from Brian. "Please, excuse us."said Gilman.
-"Don't move! Stay wherever you are." Brian said in a stern voice.
"I have told you a thousand times, Christina. Our relationship is not gonna work. You are not the type of woman, I am willing to have as wife. You might be good as a partner but nothing else!"
- Tear welled in Christina's eyes, " But I loved you. I still love you. If I have to, I'll wait for you my whole life."
- " Don't be childish, please! Don't wait for me. I don't want to talk about this topic anymore. I hope you understand." Brian left the money on the counter and got up.
-"You are the only wish that never came true. I wonder what type of woman you long for!" Christina said while looking at them leaving.
"He is one emotionless b******! Tough to break. If you want, we can have something great."
Christina turned around and saw the man staring right at her.
"Drink?" the man said with a smile.
-----------------
-"Spill the beans!" Brian said with annoyance. "You are staring at me for past half hour. What the hell is going on?"
- " Are you really waiting for your dream woman, Major?" Gilman asked with disbelief.
-" You are still talking about that night? I can't believe it. That was to ward ward off Christina." said Brian while taking a big bite of the burger.
-" You sounded serious. It's hard for me to believe that you didn't mean it."
It is clear that Gilman is not buying it. Brian thought. To change the topic Brian asked,
"When are you leaving for the engagement?"
-" I am not going anywhere. They are coming here. Saba wants to do it here." Gilman replied.
-" Are you sure you are up for it? That many people will come to your house for the engagement party, it's ridiculous. I mean if it is in your culture, go ahead."
-" It's not that many. It's Saba's family and her uncle's family. It shouldn't be more than 10. Yeah, it's part of the culture. We don't leave anyone out." Annoyance was evident in Gilman's voice.
-Brian started laughing. " I must say, you don't sound or behave like Muslims."
- Ignoring what Brian just said, " You are coming right? Not sure, how long I can stay sane in all this." Gilman looked pale.
-Brian burst out in laughter. "Don't worry I'll move into your house for that week." Brian continued laughing.
