THE LOVE 7

Image
May is running late for her calculus class in the morning. She had to get everything ready and leave her son with the mother-in-law.  May can't deny that her mother-in-law is the only one in that house who is sympathetic to her. But Hashi Begum can't say anything to her husband or to her son. May be she is not brave enough to protest or she got used to the wrongdoings.   Professor gave the test paper back. May got an F. She isn't surprised. She was never good math anyway. Moreover, her personal life took a toll on her study. But she gotta do something about this. It was the midterm exam. If she doesn't improve, she will fail the semester. This is something that May can't afford. May told herself that she needs to talk to the professor after class. "Professor, do you have a minute?" asked May. "Sure, how can I help!" The elderly professor replied. "I got an F in the midterm. I need some help with the calculus. I can't afford to fail the s...

THE LOVE(short story)6

"Mom, is dad home?", Jamila was surprised to see May early in the morning with the baby.  " He went out for a walk. He should be back soon. Why are you here that early with the baby? Where is Farabi?"   " I came with the transit bus. I need to talk to dad, it's urgent. Call him to come home now!" Said May in a worried voice. It's been an hour that shuruq came home. Sitting in the living room, he is thinking what to do in this situation. May is absolutely right if she doesn't want to go back to the boy or the family! How could Farabi make deals like that! Is May really safe in their house? Jamila broke the silence." I don't think there is anything wrong if Farabi wants May to help out his cousin. He is not really selling her. Not to mention he is getting a good amount for doing almost nothing. I don't think we should say anything."  Shuruq looked at Jamila. " Do you sometimes really forget that you are May's mother? Ho...

THE LOVE (short story) 5

May is sitting in her room. She cant quite figure out how to process the whole wedding thing. This is the day, she has been waiting for all these years. She always wanted a wedding where she will be surrounded by hundreds of people. But instead, only seven people are here. This is exactly how Farabi's dad wanted. Was it really necessary to keep it that much low profile? Seven months later... May just gave birth to a baby boy. All these pain and screaming, still May was smiling looking at her son. Only one regret, the love of her life wasn't with her through this. "The love", very strange words. She has been trying her best to find the meaning of these words in her marital life. People say that both of them are very young that's why its very hard to adjust with each other. It's very hard to believe for May. Farabi was never a husband type. To him, the purpose of life is just to have fun. One life to live!!! In her whole pregnancy, Farabi behaved like he was a s...

THE LOVE (short story) 4

" Mom, is dad home?" Farabi asked. " He is not going to be back until 8. Do you need anything?" Asked Hashi. " Nope, just let me know half hour before dad comes home." Saying that, farabi walked into the house with May. Astonished, Hashi ran behind her son, "why did you bring her here?". Slammed bedroom door was the reply she got from her son! Hashi Begum is not as happy as she used to be. May be it's because of the guilt she feels every day. The guilt of not raising her son properly or the sorrow of not being respected by her own son. What was her mistake in all these, she wonders. She raised her kid the way she was taught all her life, the way she was raised by her own parents. She is probably the most pitiful mother alive who sees her own son bringing his girlfriend in his bedroom. Not only she has to see all these, she has to make sure that her husband doesn't know anything about it... With a long sigh, she took the last sip of her te...

THE LOVE (short story)3

3 Farabi Growing up in a small village in Bangladesh, Farabi became a teenager with a very strong cultural belief. In fact, culture became stronger than the religion he was following. Coming to the States, made him more inclined to the culture than the religion. Even in high School, he had certain people he hanged around with. People who shared the same mentality, in other words, the same cultural belief. America is known as the melting pot of different cultures but this so-called fact never touched the people like Farabi. To them,  America is a place where they need to uphold their cultural beliefs more than ever before. Seeing May staring at him, didn't really bother Farabi that much. He is used to Bengali girls looking at him like that. He pretended like he didn't even see May. Girls like her, loves this type of attitude from boys. The more attitude they get, the more manly they are. But it's an undeniable fact that May is a very attractive girl. She has the right featur...

The Love(short story)2

With a sigh, May got up to warm up the food in the oven. It's the usual scene in her house. Sometimes, she wishes that her family would be like a typical l family where she could have a stay at home mom rather than the working one. Someone to come back to at the end of the day.  The Saturday morning started with absolute excitement for May. They are going to visit their family friend in Connecticut. It's not usual for May's family to go out as a family as the parents are always at work.  Standing I front of the mirror, she is doing some last minute touch-ups. Today she wearing a beige blouse with black palazzos. A black hijab to go with the whole outfit. And a beautiful butterfly brooch to beautify the outfit even more. Today May decided to use the makeup tricks that she learned from YouTube last night. In a nutshell, she is looking like the hijabi fashionistas on Instagram. It's been an hour they got to Syed ahmed's house. They are all sitting in the living room. T...

1 Brooklyn General Hospital 30 years old patient name Jamila khatun just walked in the emergency room with her husband Shuruq mia. Her water broke just an hour ago. Even though this is her second pregnancy, she is feeling absolutely terrified. Her terror is completely understandable as she is giving birth in a complete unknown country. It has been just a few months that she has moved to the States. DR, Stewart, the attending physician of that day rushed to help. "How many months is it?" No replies. Dr. stewart, with an annoyed face, repeated his question. But soon he realized that the couple didn't even understand English. He left the room to request for a translator and moved the patient immediately to the labor and delivery. It's been four hours, that Jamila Khatun is in labor pain but with no progress. The attending Gyenocologist came to check her progress. Seeing the African American female doctor, Jamila grabbed her husband's hand with fear. what if she kills...
