The Love 10 (short story)

Looking out through the window May felt like her whole life has turned dark just like this dark night. Only difference is, every dark night is followed by a morning but the darkness of her life isn't going to be replaced by the glowing morning.

"May" a call from her father brought her back to reality.

"We are home sweetheart. Let's get out." Shuruq put his hand around May's shoulder while carrying his grandson on the other. 

Shuruq opened the front door with the key and escorted his yougest daughter to her room. 

"Take rest! You daddy is still alive. Don't worry!" Shuruq kissed May's forehead and left.

Putting her son on bed, May slowly got up, careful enough not to break his sleep. She stood in front of the standing mirror of her room. The very mirror, she used to use to make herself pretty every day. Now, she sees the reflection of a young woman who has bruises on her cheeks and a bit of blood at the corner of her lips. She can't even imagine what would have happened if she wouldn't have the 911 dialled on her phone. That evening, right after Zachary left, Farabi bursted at May. May didn't even get a chance to explain herself. Farabi blurted out,

"How long have you been sleeping with Zacharia? "

A slap landed on May's face before she even opened her mouth. All this time, Syed and Hashi was just standing on the corner, doing nothing! May looked at her so much helpful mother in law, hoping she would intervene and stop Farabi. But Hashi didn't do anything. As if the misery of her daughter in law didn't even reach her heart. Hashi knew about every minute of May's life but she still kept quiet. As if, she is not gonna get another chance to make May pay back for what she did.  Furious Farabi picked up a chair to throw at May, just that moment they hear a knock on the door.

"Police!open up"

Police arrested Farabi for domestic violence and got May and her son out of the house. Shuruq Ali went straight to the police to pick up May.

Turning the faucet on in the bathroom, May burst into tears.

A call from his parents, shocked Zacharia. Hiding his face with his hands, Zacharia shook his head. This is not the outcome he intended for May. He didn't want May to get hurt, he just wanted Farabi's business deals to stop. The deals that started with Zacharia himself. He just wants to make things better for May or else this regret will keep eating him until his death.

Being separated from Farabi, opened new chapter in May's life. Her mom, Jamila still wants May to get back to that nightmare of a relationship. In her words,

"Farabi has better family status and money. Not to mention the attractiveness. You are not going to find anyone better than him. Who will marry you with a son?"

May remains silent as usual. Jamila's words doesn't hurt her feelings anymore. She has found a different meaning of life, thanks to Sarah. May realized that love isnt just the physical attraction one feels for the other gender, it's more than that. People have flaws, they seldom fulfill the expectations. The only One, who has the ability to do all these cannot be a human or any other creation. Since then, May started turning her life around, loving only the most deserving one. And what a peace of mind she gets!

May is getting Tarek ready for his first day of school. She woke up late. A quick look at the clock,  May realized that if she doesn't get out in 10 minutes, she will be late for her work as well. Garbed in black from head to toe, May stormed out of the house with her son.

After the evening prayer, May is taking rest. Tareq was picked up by her father shuruq in the afternoon. A sudden bell ring annoyed May. Grabbing a big black scarf to cover herself, May headed toward the door.
