THE LOVE 13

 -" You are leaving? I just got here." said Zakaria amazed.

-" Yes, we have been waiting for past hour and a half. I left Tarek with mom. I gotta go back." May picked her wallet. " Thanks for your time. Let's go dad."

-"You wanted to talk. That's why I came. I agree that I am late. I can be late for a number of reasons. I deserve a chance." 

- " I doubt it. If you can't even keep a time commitment, how can I trust you to keep the commitment of marriage for the rest of my life. Like I said, thanks for your time."

-" Ridiculous! I told you I was stuck in traffic. I am sorry. Now sit down, let's talk!"

May started walking toward the door, Zakaria pushed a chair in front of her
-" You are not going anywhere until we are done talking. Please sit!"

Shuruq, sitting between these two, wondering what's going on here? What are they fighting for? 

- " I can't marry you!" May said while putting the bag down with a thump.

-" Why?"

- " You are not responsible. Let's be practical Zacharia. You are an unmarried man. I am divorced with a son. Moreover, I am Farabi's ex- wife. Your family is never going to accept me. If your family is not happy, you will never be happy. So, please let this go."

- " You don't know me enough to claim that I am not responsible. Second, I am not an unmarried man. Let me remind you, I have a legally wedded wife. Third, it doesn't matter what my family thinks. I can make my own decision. And yes, my family matters to me but it doesn't mean I'll let them dictate who I want to live my life with. May, you keep forgetting that I am 7 years older than Farabi. That means, I am not a kid and I don't behave like one. So what do you say,  Will you marry me, again?"

May started feeling her ears are getting hot. 
' Oh! I wish I would be in the house right now then I would definitely grab something from the kitchen to break on this guy's head. Shameless fool!'

- " You can break my head after marriage. Right now I am waiting for the answer."

May stumbled in her thoughts. ' How does he know? Am I that obvious? '

- " Nice speech! Not nice enough to convince me. You haven't faced the reality of life yet. But I have, the bitter reality. It's easy to say than done. Trust me!"

- " I have faced enough reality May. Enough to understand the life as it is. What do you want me to do? Get down on one knee and propose you in front of everyone here? I'll do that as well."

Zacharia started getting down.
- " Ahem! Kids, you two probably forgot that I am still sitting here. You two, don't need to create any scene like this. When do you want to to get married Zacharia?"

-" Dad!" Yelled May. I am not marrying this guy.

- " Of course, you are darling. Or else, you wouldn't be sitting here 2 hours waiting for him and one hour arguing with him. I haven't seen you arguing like this in a long time. It's like the old May is back." said Shuruq with a smile. 

-" Any day. As a matter of fact, today is better. I am worried May will change her mind again. I am not taking any chance."

-" Come to our house at 7. I'll arrange everything. Come prepared."

- " May, Zakaria, Imam and everyone is here. Why are you taking so long?" 
Shuruq walked in May's room and find her crying in front of the mirror.
- " Honey, you didn't get ready yet? They are waiting outside."

-" Dad, I am scared. Mom walked out of the house saying she can't tolerate this drama again. What is my fault dad?"

- " Nothing dear! Go get dressed. I'll help my daughter to be the prettiest bride in the world!" Shuruq kissed May's forehead.

- " Dad, please don't let me call again. I don't have the courage to get up, if I fall this time."

-" You will not fall. This time, I am giving you to the man who will keep you upright, inshallah! Trust me."

Year later.....

- " I love you."

-" I don't." May said angrily. "First pick up your mess! I am tired of you two. Both of you, get out of my life. I am tired of picking after you two."

- Picking up Tareq, " Let's go son, your mom doesn't love us anymore. She is tired of us. I'll find you a brand new mom."

May picked up the cushion to throw at Zacharia.....

May's s sleep broke with the morning Ray hitting her face. She raised her hand to cover her face from the sun's glare. Took a few minutes to realize that she is sleeping on the floor. After tahajjud and morning prayer, she didn't feel like going to bed. The mind became heavier than the body could bear.
