THE LOVE(short story)1

Brooklyn General Hospital
30 years old patient name Jamila khatun just walked in the emergency room with her husband Shuruq mia. Her water broke just an hour ago. Even though this is her second pregnancy, she is feeling absolutely terrified. Her terror is completely understandable as she is giving birth in a complete unknown country. It has been just a few months that she has moved to the States.
DR, Stewart, the attending physician of that day rushed to help. "How many months is it?" No replies. Dr. stewart, with an annoyed face, repeated his question. But soon he realized that the couple didn't even understand English. He left the room to request for a translator and moved the patient immediately to the labor and delivery.
It's been four hours, that Jamila Khatun is in labor pain but with no progress. The attending Gyenocologist came to check her progress. Seeing the African American female doctor, Jamila grabbed her husband's hand with fear. what if she kills me! Having a fair complexion, always made feel superior compared to the people with darker skin tone. So, habitually she always avoided them. But the gyenocologist's complexion is way darker than the Indian subcontinent people. Hence, the fear. After checking Jamila thoroughly, the doctor asked the translator to tell her to relax. Jamila's anxiety is not helping her in any way possible. After the Gyenocologist left, Jamila asked the translator,"Apa(sister), can you arrange for a different doctor? I am scared."The translator nodded, "You left the country but couldn't leave the cheap mentality. I'll request for a different doctor"
At 2 am in the morning Jamila khatun gave birth to a baby girl. Much to her happiness, she had bright skin with absolutely beautiful facial features just like her older sister Karima. The baby was born in May, so Jamila and her husband named her 'May'. May be this is the first step of their Americanization!!!

13 years passed, May grew up to be a beautiful teenager. She is the smartest one in her High school in every aspect. Ohh! totally forgot to mention that May wears a hijab now. The piece of cloth with so many designs and so many colors. It's a fashion statement. Everyday, May looks at the Instagram muslim celebrities to look for new hijab styles and inspiration. Life is all good!!! Even the non Muslim boys at school, are compelled to turn around to have a second glimpse. May doesn't feel awkward, instead she feels proud that she is holding her muslim identity high. She is the perfect representation of a Muslim girl in the west.

May comes back home at 3 pm. Today, just like every other day, was tiresome. Throwing the book bag on the floor she calls out her mother. No replies! Instead, her grandma comes out, "Do you really have to always call your mom? You know she is at work but still you have to mess up with my nap." "I am hungry" say May. " Food is in the fridge, get it out and warm it up. I don't have time to babysit you".

to be continued..........
