THE LOVE 7

May is running late for her calculus class in the morning. She had to get everything ready and leave her son with the mother-in-law.  May can't deny that her mother-in-law is the only one in that house who is sympathetic to her. But Hashi Begum can't say anything to her husband or to her son. May be she is not brave enough to protest or she got used to the wrongdoings.

Professor gave the test paper back. May got an F. She isn't surprised. She was never good math anyway. Moreover, her personal life took a toll on her study. But she gotta do something about this. It was the midterm exam. If she doesn't improve, she will fail the semester. This is something that May can't afford. May told herself that she needs to talk to the professor after class.

"Professor, do you have a minute?" asked May.
"Sure, how can I help!" The elderly professor replied.
"I got an F in the midterm. I need some help with the calculus. I can't afford to fail the semester."
Worried May replied.
"Look! Failure is a part of life. Don't let this put you down. People learn when the fail. Use this failure as a motivation to do better. You should make appointment with tutor. I am sure they will help you out." said professor looking at May.
"Thank you so much." May left.

Luckily, May was able to make a same day appointment with the tutor. The librarian said  that she will be available in 15 minutes. May got seat for herself and started waiting for the tutor. 15 minutes later,
"I am sorry! I am  few minutes late. I had to run to the bathroom. My name is sarah. I am the math tutor here." Sarah extended her hand for handshake.
Looking at Sarah, May lost her words for a minute. Hesitantly, she grabbed the black-gloved hand for handshake.
"So, what can I help you with?" Sarah said with a cherry tone.
" Umm, I failed my calculus mid-term. These functions doesn't make any sense to me at all. Can you help?" May replied, trying to keep her voice as normal as possible. She still can't believe that a woman, covered head to toe with black fabric is her tutor. All her life, she heard her parents saying that these people cover everything because they are not educated. That's why they hold onto this old custom. But here she is, about to be taught by one of those uneducated women. Her mind is confused. Only thing she knows is, she just grew a deep respect for the woman right in front of her.

Looking at the test paper, " It's really easy. You have to just memorize few formulas and get used to using them. Do you like puzzles?" Sarah asked.

"Yeah, puzzle is way easier than these calculus though."replied May.

" Calculus is just like the puzzles. You have to just figure out which puzzle piece you need to use." Sarah said.
After an hour, May was happy that she was able understand the chapter.
"Thanks for all your help. You are awesome! Umm, would you mind if take your number so I can call you sometimes?" May felt embarrassed saying it.

Sarah looked at May for a minute.
This girl looks like she is in some deep problems. She has adorned herself with the most expensive clothes but she is not happy. At least her eyes doesn't show the happiness.
" You can always find me here. Just tell the librarian. You don't have to make any appointments." Sarah said.

"Thanks", May replied with a smile. She doesn't even know why she became happy. May be she just made a real friend in her life for the first time.

To be continued......
