THE LOVE (short story) 5
Seven months later...
May just gave birth to a baby boy. All these pain and screaming, still May was smiling looking at her son. Only one regret, the love of her life wasn't with her through this. "The love", very strange words. She has been trying her best to find the meaning of these words in her marital life. People say that both of them are very young that's why its very hard to adjust with each other. It's very hard to believe for May. Farabi was never a husband type. To him, the purpose of life is just to have fun. One life to live!!! In her whole pregnancy, Farabi behaved like he was a single guy. A pregnant wife was never in his mind. Every time she called, the only reply was "I am out with my friends. I can't leave my life just because I married you.". Since that day, May never asked for anything else. She was busy with her High School and Farabi was busy with his work and friends.
May's son is 4 months old now. Syed is having a family meeting with his son and his wife. May is never invited in their family discussions. Half hour later Syed called May to come to the living room. " You know Farabi has so many cousins in Bangladesh. Even though we live here, we keep in touch with them almost everyday. My brother's family is not that much well off back home. So, we are thinking to help them out. My brother's son Zacharia wants to come to the states as an immigrant. So, we are thinking to bring him here as your husband." May was dumbstruck. She looked at Farabi. Syed added, "Don't think my brother is taking advantage of you for free. He already paid a good amount to Farabi for this. Only thing you have to do is go to Bangladesh and marry Zacharia in paperwork and later bring him here." May couldn't say anything. Everything started making sense now! That's why Syed demanded a low profile wedding. Does my mom know about this all along?
Thought May.
"So, how does it feel? You should be proud of yourself that you just sold your wife to another man" said May with a sarcastic smile. Farabi looked at May for a minute, he tried to explain, " Look it's not like the way you are thinking. We are just trying to help out one of my cousins here. I am not selling you! Just helping him to come to the states. Look, it's in our religion: Muslim always help other Muslims." May laughed, not sure why did she do that. May be when people's trust is broken, they behave like this. " How thoughtful of you! You are trying to follow the teachings of religion by selling your wife. I don't think any religion will support that. I am surprised that you didn't even think twice before making the decision. I always thought that men are always possessive about their women. That's what I have seen everywhere. Seems like, you don't even deserve to be called a man!!" A slap on the face stopped May. This slap was nothing compared to what she just got from Farabi and his family.
