THE REVERT 19

 The morning brought the worst news for 36 weeks pregnant Glory. It was Ruby who answered the door when it knocked. Ruby saw the two uniformed male through the peephole and hid herself behind the door and answered. Even Ruby wasn't prepared to hear what came next. The whole time Glory was holding Ruby's hand. The words," Sgt, Wilson died on the line of duty. We are sorry for your loss Mrs. Wilson." ,shook Glory's entire world. She couldn't stand up anymore after they left. Both friends hugged each other and cried. One for the loss of the beloved one and the other for the sorrow of her only friend. Ruby didn't know what to say, how to calm Glory down. How can anyone ever calm a widow down! She still remembers the day when Parker asked her to stay in his house. Ruby knew from the beginning that it was Brian's idea but the honesty that she saw in Parker's eyes convinced her. If she wouldn't accept his request that day, she would never have met Glory. Ruby felt llike, it's her responsibility now to be by Glory's side as she promised Parker before his demise. The thought of Parker reminded her about Brian.' They were together, is he okay? ' Ruby right away, pushed the thoughts aside. Now, her first priority is Glory nothing else. She wiped her tears and looked at Glory.

-"Glory!! Please eat something. You are harming yourself and your baby like this."

Glory didn't buzz. Ruby had asked at least 20 times the same question in the past few hours. But there was no reply except the blank stare from her. 

-" You can't do this thing, honey! Think about your baby, you have to be strong for her. You have to eat now.!"

Ruby took a spoonful of rice that she prepared and held it in front of Glory's mouth. But Glory didn't move a bit. Ruby gave up trying. She realized this depression will take a big toll on Glory if she doesn't do anything sooner. 'But what can I do? Should I contact someone for help? But whom?' Ruby thought. ' Brian? Can he help?'

Ruby ran to the living room and picked up the phone to call the operator and asked for Major Brian Thomas. She dialled the number they provided but no one answered, so she left a message.

It's been two days that the news of Parker's death reached them. Glory is in the same state as before and deteriorating. Ruby pushed her few times to go to the hospital but she denied. As if, Glory has lost all her reasons to live. 

The weather is getting worse. Ruby looked out through the window. The sky is dark and the tress are moving violently. The nature is warning everyone about something ominous is coming. Ruby went back to Glory with a bowl of soup. 

-" Glory, finish the soup please. It will give you some strength." As soon as Ruby sat next to Glory, she felt something wet in her hand. She immediately got up to check, ' Glory is bleeding.'  Ruby tried to shake Glory but she was unconscious. Ruby ran to get her phone and called the emergency number. The operator said the weather is so bad they are probably not gonna make it through, the trees fell down everywhere. The roads are blocked. Desperate Ruby, through the phone on the bed and got ready. She has to do something. She can't loose the only friend she got. She can't let her bleed to death. 

Ruby came back to Glory and tried to bring her back to consciousness for one last time. She kept making Dua to the almighty. Glory got her sense back and somehow they both made it to the car. 

After 5 minutes driving on the road, tiny had to stop. A giant tree broke and fell on the road. Ruby looked at Glory in the back.

-" I don't think we can make it to the hospital, Glory. The weather is really bad. How are you doing?"

-" My water broke, Ruby. Forget about the hospital. I can't hold it for long."

Ruby looked around trying to find a safe place around. The road is surrounded by the deep jungle on both sides. Ruby decided to drive into the wilderness.' May be it's a bad idea. But now, it seems the safest one.' Ruby thought.

An hour later, Glory gave birth to a baby girl. But she is still bleeding. Ruby hugged the baby tight to her chest to keep her warm and reached for her phone to call for help again. The sky seemed clearing up a bit and the wind also stopped. But she couldn't find her phone. She quickly realized she left the phone on the bed in a hurry. Ruby, looked up and closed her eyes. " Allah please help me. Give me some idea. Please!" Ruby muttered. 

All the sudden, she gave the baby to Glory and jumped to the driver seat. 

-" Glory, hang on tight!"

Ruby carefully drove past the fallen tree and got on the road again to drive toward the hospital. She muttered, " alhamdulillah."
