THE REVERT 24

 - " Can you update me about everything, here?" David asked while taking a sip from the sugarless coffee.

- " What do you want to know?" Brian asked. For a strange reason, he can't look at his father. ' Am I being nervous?' Brian wondered.

-" David cleared his throat, " First answer me, when did I become a grandfather?"

- " You haven't yet. I mean you will be soon if that girl agrees to marry me. I'll be the adopted father. "

- " Wait a minute! That's not your baby? That girl is not your wife? Why is she staying at your apartment? It doesn't look like you live there or else you wouldn't have dragged me out from that place." David tried his best to understand the son is sitting right in front of him. It felt like, he didn't know this Brian.

-" Parker and Glory is Hafsah's biological parents. They both passed away. Ruby was given the custody of the baby and I want to marry Ruby." Brian sounded almost mechanical.

- " So, that baby is partially my grand daughter. Sweet! So when are you two getting married? Wait! Ruby is a Muslim and you are a Christian. Is she okay with marrying you? She looks really religious." David straightened himself in the chair.

- " I was a Christian but I converted in my last mission. Please don't take it in a wrong way dad! The change of my religion doesn't change the fact that you are my father. As a matter of fact, Islam tells the Muslims to be more caring toward the parents.  About Ruby, she hasn't agreed to marry me yet. I literally tried everything nothing's working!" At this moment, Brian looked really sad.

- Dad laughed looking at his son. " You know son, this is the first time, you are longing for a woman. At least, I have never seen you like this. Why doesn't Ruby want to marry you?"

- " Well!" David hesitated for a second. " She thinks I look like a woman." David looked away. He had no intention to look at the expression on his dad's face.

-"What!!" David burst into laughter. " That's one hell of a woman you got there son. I have no doubt that she is the perfect match for you. But why aren't you man enough for her?"

-" I don't know! I dress like men, talk like men, hair cut is like men and clean shaved....... Got it!" Brian smiled. I know what she meant. ' I got you woman.' Brian thought.

-" I am still sitting in front of you. Express your thoughts." David asked while looking at his smiling son.

-"According to the religion, I am not supposed to shave my beard. Muslim men grows them. Even if I start keeping them, I bet she is still not gonna agree to marry me. She is very high in the self dignity department."

-" So why did you call me here?" David took the last sip of his coffee and asked.

-" I want you to talk to her and convince her to marry me!" Brian replied in a calm voice. " Don't show me that face yet, dad! I don't have any other way. Both of Ruby's parents deserted her because of her religious practice. I know you are not prejudiced about any religion. You might be the father figure to her. May be if you try to tell her, she will agree! Honestly, you will become exactly like her father when I marry her."

- " I can't believe it! You are asking me to propose your dream girl to be my daughter in law. This is something new! Alright, I am in. When do you want me to propose her?" David smiled.

-" Tonight! I'll be out in 3 days. I want to marry her before that of she agrees." Brian took a deep breath, " I don't know whether I'll be able to make it back in one piece from this mission."

- David put his hand on Brian's. " Son, the job you have is very risky! Why would a woman marry you knowing that she can be a widow anytime? On top of that, there's a baby involved here."

-"Dad! Trust me, I have never met a woman like her. I fell in love with her when she faced the gruesome death and didn't even blink. I have seen the bravery that's rare even in the soldiers in a battlefield. Death is the last thing she cares about. She knows what I do for living." Brian put his hands in the pocket. " The religion has made her unimaginably stronger. I think that was one of the main reasons I got interested in Islam. I want her in my life! I keep asking the god to give her to me." At this point, Brian closed his eyes.

-" I'll see what I can do son! Tell her we are going there for dinner tonight. I want to play with my potential grand daughter as well."

------------

Ruby running back and forth from Hafsah and her cooking. Brian did the grocery shopping and left it by the door and texted her that his father wants come for dinner. Ruby didn't have to cook but she wanted to do it as a form of gratitude. Brian is a nice guy but she didn't want to put her and Hafsah's burden on him. He deserves a better life partner. Ruby couldn't even imagine herself as Brian's wife. 'But this man doesn't know how to let things go.' Ruby thought. ' He doesn't like a no for an answer.' Ruby sighed and put the chicken down from the stove top. She made an Indian dish for Brian's Father. This old guy reminded Ruby about her own father who forgot about her.

-----------

- " The chicken is delicious! What is it called?"

David asked trying to scoop up every last bit from his plate.

- " It's an Indian style chicken roast. I kinda put few recipes together and made this one." Ruby replied looking down.

-" Dad! Please don't eat the plate. Have some more of you like" Brian grinned.

-" Oh! Shut up!" David answered Brian."Ruby dear, can I have a few minutes to talk to you?"

-" Sure! Can I put Hafsah to sleep first? It's her bed time." Ruby replied.

-" I'll take care of that. You talk to dad. I took care of her for few days in the hospital, don't forget!" Brian replied.

Ruby looked between these two guys! ' What are they planning?' Ruby wondered.
